Who is Kwagala Foundation?

Kwagala Foundation is comprised of four dedicated members. Recognizing the importance of a trustworthy relationship between the foundation and our friends and donors, we have included a page to provide some background information on the man and women making up Kwagala Foundation.

Katie Muirhead – President/Founder/Co-Director

Travelling to Uganda in 2006, Katie saw an opportunity to assist Ugandans in need. Through collaboration with local Ugandans, this opportunity became what is now Kwagala Foundation. She is currently studying Human Rights and Global Studies at the University of Winnipeg, and working at a travel clinic in Winnipeg. She travels to Uganda annually as part of her dedication to Kwagala Foundation.

Leigh McClarty – Vice President/Co-Director

Leigh is currently finishing up an honours degree in Microbiology at the University of Manitoba; she enjoys the simple things in life including coffee, music, photography, microbial pathogenesis, and plaid. For a long time Leigh has taken an interest in supporting and promoting sustainable living for people living in developing countries, and she is so grateful to now have the opportunity to be involved with Kwagala Foundation. Leigh has visited The Gambia, West Africa as well as Peru where she was able to get a firsthand experience of day to day life for the people she wishes to help.

Byamaka Musa "Moses” – Ugandan Correspondent

Easily one of the brightest young men in all of Africa, Kwagala Foundation was lucky enough to have found Moses. He is hard-working, studious, intelligent and full of charisma. His personal dedication to Kwagala Foundation has proven an unequivocal asset to our on-the-ground progress. Finishing his schooling to pursue a career in law, Moses has still managed to make time for Kwagala Foundation. He personally travels to Kyababeezi to ensure that all programs are running smoothly, and all needs are being met. His Kwagala experience was made complete by a trip to Canada in December 2008.

Teddy Kwagala – Ugandan Correspondent/Jewelry-Maker

The woman who inspired it all. Independent and self-sustaining through her delightfully successful jewelry-making, Teddy has been both a friend and a leader in Kwagala Foundation. Her jewelry is found on the necks, wrists and ears of several people from all over Canada (and can be viewed by following the link on our website!). She has recently married a wonderful man named Daniel; and is the stepmother to a cute three-year-old Pavin. More recently she has given birth to a boy, Takalewa Christopher. Working closely with Moses and with the Canada-based Kwagala team, she has allowed Kwagala Foundation to push forward and to seek out sustainable ways of working on the ground.
