One of our newer initiatives, and born out of the desire to
see our sponsored children’s grades improve, Kwagala Foundation created an After-School
Program. The initiative is run entirely by locals with primary-school teaching
experience. So, every Saturday during the school term and three times weekly
during holidays, sponsored children can receive tutoring, play games, make arts
and crafts and sing traditional songs. We hope that by providing a safe place
that is neither home nor school, the children will have an alternative to
homework conditions. At school the children can be distracted and already busy
with schoolwork; returning home may mean housework, whereby their homework gets
put aside.
Further, the program allows children to talk about
difficulties they face, offering a peer-guided support group. The program is
run entirely on donation, and is a
great extra-curricular investment.
Please keep checking back here for more project updates as they become available!
