About Kwagala Foundation

Kwagala Foundation is a Winnipeg-based non-profit organisation working with small communities in Uganda, Africa.

Since 2006, Kwagala Foundation has maintained its focus on community development at a grassroots level through various sustainable programs supporting childhood education and emphasizing public health issues. In addition, Kwagala Foundation is dedicated to empowering women in these small communities through the promotion of hand-made Ugandan art in Canada.

Currently, our projects are focused in and around Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. Both of Kwagala Foundation’s Ugandan correspondents, Moses and Teddy, as well as the group of women creating jewelry for our Women’s Empowerment Program work out of Wakiso District, South of Kampala. Our sponsorship program and the majority of our community development projects involve families and children living in Kyababeezi – a village approximately 100 kilometres west of Kampala and home to around one thousand people. Because Kyababeezi is quite a distance from Uganda’s metropolis, villagers have limited access to many of life’s basic necessities. Thus, Kwagala Foundation believes that promoting sustainable development projects to its people will enable Kyababeezi to flourish as a rural community. Fortunately though, Kyababeezi and its surrounding parishes offer numerous well-regarded primary and secondary schools that are ideal for our sponsored children to attend.
